Sweet release

Surrender - it seems to be a never ending lesson for me. I wrote this one a few months ago, but I was on a retreat this weekend and was, once again, reminded of God's promises.

Clinging to ideals defined by broken, fallen people
Trying to attain some ill-conceived sense of success
Aligning expectations with a world so far from holy
Striving to measure up to some fabricated best

Then he called me to be different from this world
And I hear him as he whispers…

Just breathe deep
And feel that sweet release
From letting go
Of what was never yours to control
Soak it in
The freedom of complete surrender
Find rest
In the promise of forever

Grasping for the answers that only he can offer
Struggling to fathom the assurance of his grace
Holding on to pieces of a life that is not mine
Turning back to him, and yet again I run away

But he called me to be different from this world
And I listen as he whispers…

Just breathe deep
And feel that sweet release
From letting go
Of what was never yours to control
Soak it in
The freedom of complete surrender
Find rest
In the promise of forever

Waking every morning and remembering his mercies
Deciding to believe in the truth that he supplies
Living every moment in the light of resurrection
Making sure my whole life is a living sacrifice

And he called me to be different from this world
And I follow as he whispers…

Just breathe deep
And feel that sweet release
From letting go
Of what was never yours to control
Soak it in
The freedom of complete surrender
Find rest
In the promise of forever
